The printed version of Calendar Puzzles 2009 contains some errors in the October puzzle. This is entirely my fault. The puzzle was checked several times by Dumpynose and proofread by Locum. Files were adjusted accordingly and all was fine. The updated file was sent to the printers to replace the incorrect file. Unfortunately, at the last moment the printer pulled up the wrong file for the final print run. I was actually sitting right next to him but did not spot the error.
1aw, 9ac, 12d
Part of track shoe, dream kind,
blending with foot (4, 4, 2, 3, 4)
The corection applies to the number of letters in the last word. The printed calendar shows (4, 4, 2, 3, 5). The last word in the solution is not 5 letters but 4.
The direction in the clue should read 5D, 31 Aw
The solution is a snake which runs down from 5 and then snakes away at 31. This is highlighted in the puzzle grid.
20 Aw is another snake which runs away from 20 but then snakes down at the back of the grid.
We will post a corrected calendar puzzle on the site at the end of September
